Downtown and the waterfront

Downtown Kirkland sits on Lake Washington around Marina Park, which hosts the city’s July 4th celebration and summer concert series, with restaurants and shops a short walk away. Kirkland Urban, beside Peter Kirk Park, extends downtown with shops, restaurants, offices and a public plaza. On Kirkland Avenue you will find The Heathman Kirkland, a 91-room hotel, and the Kirkland Performance Center, a 394-seat theater for music, dance, theater, film and lectures.

Carillon Point

About a mile and a half south along the lake, Carillon Point is home to The Woodmark Hotel & Still Spa, a waterfront hotel whose event spaces host weddings with Lake Washington as the backdrop.

Totem Lake

Kirkland’s north end centers on The Village at Totem Lake, an open-air mix of shops, restaurants and a Cinemark theater. It sits beside I-405 at NE 128th Street, where the freeway’s express toll lanes have a direct-access ramp. From here, I-405 is the first road for almost every trip.

For SEA, it is I-405 south nearly the whole way, through Bellevue and Renton to Tukwila, then SR 518 into the airport. That is about 22–24 miles and typically 30–45 minutes outside peak hours, a few minutes longer from Totem Lake than from downtown. Every SEA airport pickup includes flight tracking, so an early or delayed arrival moves the pickup time with it.

For downtown Seattle, trips from downtown Kirkland usually cross on SR 520 and its tolled floating bridge: about 11 miles, typically 20–35 minutes outside peak hours. From Totem Lake it is closer to 16 miles, with more of it on I-405 first. The untolled alternative is I-405 south to I-90 across Mercer Island. These ranges are mapping estimates checked against WSDOT’s travel-time data, and traffic varies.

What to know about I-405

Between Bellevue and Lynnwood, I-405 has express toll lanes that operate 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays. Their tolls adjust every few minutes with traffic, and the lanes are free on weekends and overnight. South of Bellevue, WSDOT is building express toll lanes from Bellevue to Renton, with lane reductions and closures during construction and an opening forecast for summer 2027. For early flights and weekday trips south, leave extra room.

For a wedding at The Woodmark, the stretch limousine seats up to 10 for the wedding party. If guests are staying downtown or in Bellevue, the Executive Sprinter van (12) or the party bus (30) can bring them to Carillon Point and take them back after the reception. A smaller option downtown is the city’s Heritage Hall and Centennial Gardens, rented for ceremonies and receptions: up to 70 guests inside, or 125 from May through September using the gardens too.
