Downtown Bellevue

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport
One Highway, Two Directions
Mercer Island is just over five miles long and two miles wide, and the city notes that it is the only city in the region whose residents’ sole way in and out is an interstate highway (City of Mercer Island). Every trip starts on I-90. Head west and you cross Lake Washington on the I-90 floating bridges, the Lacey V. Murrow Memorial Bridge and the Homer M. Hadley Bridge, into Seattle. Head east and the East Channel Bridge takes you into Bellevue.
That puts the island close to both cities. Downtown Seattle is only about 6–7 miles from Town Center, typically 10–20 minutes outside peak hours, and I-90 carries no toll in either direction. Because every trip depends on the same freeway, though, check its conditions before a flight or a fixed start time and leave a cushion.
Two ways to the airport
SEA is about 17–19 miles either way: east over the East Channel Bridge to I-405 south and SR 518, or west over the floating bridges to I-5 south. Outside peak hours the trip typically takes 25–40 minutes from Town Center, and homes on the south end of the island add up to about ten minutes of local driving. These ranges are mapping estimates checked against WSDOT’s travel-time data, and traffic varies. Chauffeurs plan around traffic, so the direction is chosen on the day, and every SEA airport pickup includes flight tracking.
Places on the Island
Town Center
Town Center, the island’s commercial district, sits at the north end just south of I-90, with local shops, restaurants and service businesses.
Community and Event Center
The city’s Community and Event Center on SE 24th Street is rented for weddings and receptions, business meetings, conferences and banquets. Its Mercer Room seats up to 200 for a banquet and can be divided into smaller rooms, and the building looks out over Lake Washington toward the Cascades.
Luther Burbank Park and Aubrey Davis Park
Luther Burbank Park has an amphitheater with terraced lawn seating and reservable picnic areas. The city requires a Special Event application for any wedding there, and for any event that needs vehicle access, so settle with the city where vehicles may stop before you fix arrival times (park rental rules). Aubrey Davis Park, built in 1992 to offset the I-90 reconstruction and once called the Lid Park, includes the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trail and a boat launch.

FAQ
Mercer Island Questions
How long does it take to get from Mercer Island to SEA?
Typically 25–40 minutes outside peak hours from Town Center, a little longer from the south end. The route runs either east to I-405 or west to I-5, depending on traffic. Include your flight time when you request the ride.
Is there a toll between Mercer Island and Seattle or Bellevue?
No. Both directions use I-90, which WSDOT does not toll.
Can you drop off wedding guests at Luther Burbank Park?
The city requires a Special Event application for weddings in the park and for events needing vehicle access. Once the city has confirmed where vehicles may stop, send us the arrival times and guest count and we can plan the shuttle.
Can you shuttle guests to an event at the Community and Event Center?
Yes. Guest transportation is part of our wedding service, and the same vehicles work for banquets and conferences. The Sprinter van seats 12 and the party bus 30; tell us the headcount and where guests are staying.
