Routes Out of Redmond
SR 520 is Redmond’s road west. It passes Overlake, meets I-405 in Bellevue and crosses Lake Washington on the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge to I-5 in Seattle. From downtown Redmond to downtown Seattle is about 15 miles, typically 20–35 minutes outside peak hours, and a little shorter from Overlake. The bridge is tolled in both directions, with rates that change by time of day and drop on nights, weekends and holidays.
The untolled option is I-405 south to I-90 and across Mercer Island. WSDOT tracks both as separate Redmond–Seattle routes, and the I-90 version adds roughly four miles.
For SEA, the drive is SR 520 west to I-405, then south through Bellevue and Renton to SR 518 at Tukwila: about 22–24 miles and typically 30–45 minutes outside peak hours. These ranges are mapping estimates checked against WSDOT’s travel-time data. Traffic varies.
The evening squeeze
Weekday evenings are the hard window heading west. WSDOT’s SR 520 commute data shows the 14-mile trip from Redmond to Seattle averaging 33 minutes in the general-purpose lanes during the 2024 evening peak, and arriving on time 19 days out of 20 meant allowing 56 minutes, against 14 minutes at the speed limit. For a dinner reservation or a curtain time in Seattle, plan the pickup around that.
Where Redmond Trips Start
Overlake
Overlake is Redmond’s designated urban center and home to technology firms including Microsoft, whose headquarters campus is at One Microsoft Way. It has direct access to SR 520 and sits about three miles from both downtown Bellevue and downtown Redmond. One campus address covers many buildings, so give the building and lobby when you book.
Downtown Redmond and Redmond Town Center
Redmond Town Center is an open-air shopping center next to historic downtown Redmond. Its directory lists several hotels at the center, including the Archer Hotel Redmond and the Seattle Marriott Redmond, which makes it a practical meeting point for group pickups.
Marymoor Park and Clise Mansion
King County’s Marymoor Park sits just south of Redmond Town Center. It holds the state’s only velodrome and the Marymoor Live summer concert venue, set in the Willowmoor Farm historic district. Close by is Clise Mansion, built in the early 1900s by Seattle banker James Clise and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is rented for weddings, corporate retreats and other gatherings, with a ballroom, event rooms and gardens.
